She took a very ordinary (boring) draft from a first-time author (me) and gradually guided it into becoming something that held readers’ attention. Among other things, she suggested that readers shouldn’t be able to figure out who the guilty party was until I decided to reveal it. She was right!

I received my edited novel well before I expected. I reviewed the entire novel before accepting any changes. The pace was heightened in many cases, the tone was more consistent, and unnecessary phrases were eliminated throughout. At all times, I was reassured by her close attention to every detail. Miranda adds a note explaining her reason for making a change. She brought to my attention words that she thought might be misleading, depending on how I chose to interpret the surrounding text.
Although I was an English major in college, my grammatical skills leave much to be desired (comma placement, run-on paragraphs, and noun capitalization). She saved me from publishing embarrassing mistakes.
Miranda rearranged phrases in sentences with awkward syntax. She identified words that could cause a reader to stop and question my choice. I was most thankful to her for highlighting many phrases whose meanings were already implied by the text and for identifying dialogue tags that were unnecessary. I’ll bet my novel will be at least three or four pages shorter, which will endear her to my readers. She even suggested correcting the font in those sections where I’d become a little too cute for my own good.
Her commitment to my work has significantly improved its quality. My future novels will demand that I hire her again, which I will gladly do.
